(11) $6,968,327 for upgrades/improvements to the Public Works Facility owned by and located within the City of Greenwood;
Project Overview
The city is long overdue for a new city shop and is in need of a better equipped facility. The city shop currently includes an admin building for Public Works and Fleet Maintenance staff, a fleet maintenance building, a sanitation truck storage shed, and a fleet vehicle storage facility. The site also features the city fueling station, gravel access roads, the city vehicle impound, and an employee parking lot. This facility was originally built in the 1960s and serves as the office area for Public Works, Fleet Maintenance and is the location where all City fleet maintenance occurs.
Most buildings have exceeded their service life, lacking adequate office/training space for staff, restroom facilities, and climate control systems. Large vehicles have increased in size in sixty years and our fleet maintenance building can no longer accommodate vehicles such as sanitation or fire trucks. Repairs to these vehicles must be completed outside, year round, in all types of weather.
Proposed improvements include upgrading the existing admin building to add additional office space, a new break room/training room, restroom facilities, and heated vehicle storage. The existing sanitation truck storage shed will be demolished to make room for an addition to the fleet maintenance building for upkeep of heavy duty vehicles. The remainder of the fleet maintenance building will be updated to better accommodate modem vehicles, along with new restroom facilities, break room, office space, and parts storage. A covered vehicle wash bay will be constructed adjacent to the heavy duty maintenance bays. A gravel fleet parking lot will be constructed next to existing employee parking, and new gravel will be installed throughout the vehicle maintenance building. New concrete will also be installed in these areas. The fuel pumps and vehicle impound will remain as built, while surrounding concrete is repaired as needed.
These renovations will ensure that Public Works and Fleet Maintenance staff have adequate office and training space, and that maintenance crews are better able to maintain the functionality of our city fleet. This is a necessary and much needed upgrade to ensure the City can continue to provide high level service to City residents.
