(23) $681,518 for upgrades/improvements to the interior and exterior of the facility currently known as the Arts Center, owned by and located within the City of Greenwood and Greenwood County;
Project Overview
The Arts Center at the Federal Building will Celebrate its 20th year in this beautiful, restored facility. Located at the corner of Oregon and Main, the Center is the jewel centerpiece of Uptown. The Federal Building also serves as the Visitors Center for the community. The Arts and Visitors Center is open 5 days a week and annually has 16,000-18,000 visitors and users. The Center often serves the city and county as a meeting place. This proposal will address critical capital improvement projects required by the facility over the next 6 years. Those projects include replacing failing HVAC systems, plumbing restoration (such as but not limited to, restoring hot water to entire building), lighting and flooring.
The Federal building is an architectural treasure in this community and its initial renovations were funded for the most part through private donations. This is an opportunity for the County to be a partner in the ongoing support of this magnificent structure which will continue to serve this community for the next 100 years. The Arts Center at the federal Building has been a catalyst for all subsequent uptown revitalization. Additionally, the Center is an economic development tool for the county. Business and industry consider quality of life in making decisions concerning locations. The traffic in the Center annually represents over $3,350,000 added to the economy using a low multiplier of $20 per person.
